Street and documentary photography relies on capturing images of people in candid situations in public places, but it's advisable to get your subject's permission, particularly if your aim is to reproduce these images for exhibitions, film or other creative avenues. Other than using model release forms, what are the steps you should take to avoid infringement of privacy rights or data protection, whether you're photographing an 'anonymous' subject or a high profile politician or celebrity.
